Rough-sawn cedar.11 x 6 1/2 x 5 1/4. Kerfs on front for foothold, roofline vents, floor drainholes. Front opens for easy cleaning and observation. Entrance angled to prevent rain entry. Rough-sawn finish mimics trees. Cedar is resistant to moisture, rot and insects.East facing is preferred by bluebirds, away from prevailing winds. Bluebirds prefer open spaces. Greatest threat to bluebirds is habitat loss.
My birdhouses are made from natural, untreated cedar. The oils in cedar make it resistant to rot and insect damage. It is also resistant to temperature and other weather conditions.
Although it will turn gray over time, it does not need to be painted or stained. A transparent stain on the roof only, will protect it from the brunt of weather, such as sun, rain and snow.
My cedar is unfinished from the mill, and will have knots, bends, saw marks, warp and other characteristics of this type of wood. Quality of construction is not compromised by this, and my birdhouses will give years of beauty and functionality to your property, and benefit to blue birds.
Handmade in Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains.
