Description
This men's formal wear vest in black wool and satin came from an estate haul which consisted of pieces dating from the lates 1800s through the to the 1970s.The closest example of this style I found is on a Pinterest board is titled Mens 1870s vests.... interesting but I really have no other knowledge about this era of menswear. If you do, PLEASE let me know I would be so grateful!
It is made of wool and satin, it has that interesting low and rounded opening in front, working pockets trimmed in low profile rickrack, fully lined, and beautifully handmade. The top button fell off while I was shooting it. I am not sure if it can be easily reattached, so I am offering the vest as is while I figure that out.
The buckle in the back has pointy teeth which I think was meant to just grab onto the opposite strap. The metal edge of it is stamped AMERICA
In pretty amazing condition for it's age. I found some moth nibbles on the inside of the right front as shown.
flat measurements:
armpit to armpit: 20.25"
length: 16.25" in front, 21.5" in back.
thanks for looking!
