Spreading Joy Through Nature & Wildlife
    Our story
    How we got our start?
Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available.
    What makes our product unique?
All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.
Why we love what we do?
Our passion stems from our upbringing. We are farmers. We are builders. We are wildlife enthusiasts. And we enjoy the simpler things in life. We love animals and we spread happiness.

Beautiful Birds Right At Your Window
    Educate, Observe and Enjoy
The Wakefield Window Nesting Box was specially designed to optimize the viewability of birds in the birdhouse. The back window/screen is made of plastic, which enables you to observe the birds throughout nesting season - watch birds nesting, eggs hatching and the baby birds as they grow up, making the Wakefield window nesting box perfect for bird watching, entertainment or educational purposes.
Wakefield Window Bird Houses are great for...
Observing nesting birds from the comfort of your living room
    Fun for the whole family
    Educating children
    Nesting Birds Need Privacy
A common mistake people make when trying to attract birds to their window nesting box is leaving the shades open at all times. The problem is the birds CAN see you and they don't like it! Nesting birds need privacy - would you like someone peering into your house and watching you sleep?
We highly recommend that you keep the window shade behind the nest box closed except when observing nesting activities. This will help attract the birds to your birdhouse more quickly and will keep them comfortable and happy during their stay.
Why Don't We Use a One-Way Mirror Instead of the Clear Observation Panel?
A one-way mirror, when used in conjunction with a nest box, is virtually assured that it will not be occupied. A bird, seeing his or her own reflection inside of a nest box will interpret that reflection as being another of his or her own specifies, and will either become aggressive or move on.
For example, we get a flood of calls every spring from consumers asking, "Why is a cardinal pecking at my window, at roughly the same time every day?"
The answer is that the cardinal undoubtedly has a nest close to the window. Seeing his own reflection in the window at certain times of day, he interprets the reflection as a competitor and is trying to chase it away.
Additionally, a one-way mirror will not work as expected when used in a nest box. The most brightly lit side of any one-way mirror becomes the reflective side. The entrance to the nest box will allow only minimal light to reach the one-way mirror, while the other side becomes the reflective side and the birds will still see you.
    Easy Mounting on Window
Put on a 1st-floor window with trees and/or bushes close by to provide cover for nesting birds as they enter and exit the nest box. This will also provide the birds with shade, as an unshaded location with full sunlight may be too hot for nestlings.
The 100% silicone suction cups will indefinitely stick directly to the outside of your window or patio door. The window must be freshly cleaned immediately before installation for best results. Suction cups should be freshly washed with warm, soapy water, then rinsed and dried before installation. You can also very lightly moisten each suction cup with a very small amount of kitchen oil, which will not evaporate as water (or saliva) would.
