How we got our start?
Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available.
What makes our product unique?
All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.

Wren
Bubbly and energetic, wrens are known for their beautiful song voices and distinct flat heads and long beaks.
Wrens will commonly nest in birdhouses that sway in the wind, and their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/8 inches.
Chickadee
Undeniably curious, chickadees have a habit of investigating new areas and people. They are quick to discover new feeders and houses, making them an extremely common bird to find in your birdhouse.
Their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/8 inches.
Warbler
Often found foraging for insects amongst small branches and shrubs, Warblers are beautiful birds that typically stay low to the ground, usually feeding at heights below 10 feet.
Because of this, if trying to attract a Warbler, you'll want to hang your birdhouse around 10 feet off the ground. Their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/4 inches.
Bluebird
Bluebirds are common cavity nesters and will often select sites such as an old woodpecker hole to build their nests.
Older bluebirds will often prefer a nest box over a tree cavity, such as the birdhouses we offer. Their preferred hole opening size is 1 1/2 inches.

Face it away from harsh weather -
Make sure the entrance hole faces away from prevailing winds that normally come from the east and west. The smooth sloped roof not only allows rainwater to roll away from the enclosure but also overhangs over the entryway, allowing for a safe and dry landing spot for birds to use before entering their home. The safer the home, the more likely a bird family will move in!

Key Features
Clean with Ease
Purposefully designed for easy cleaning, the Wakefield Cedar Log Cabin features 2 screws on the bottom floor to remove the base. All you'll need is a Phillips screwdriver, and a little bit of muscle.
Be sure to check the birdhouse before removing it to make sure that any bird families have moved out for the season. The best time to clean your birdhouse is during the first few weeks of August. This is usually the time that the nesting brood has fledged and moved on.

Colors we recommend painting your birdhouse to include red, yellow, orange, and white.
Avoid using colors that are fluorescent, metallic, iridescent. The dramatic brightness and other additives in the paint could be harmful to wildlife.
Avoid painting around the entrance hole and other airway gaps.

The Wakefield Log Cabin Bird House provides protection from the cold and elements for most common backyard birds including wrens, chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice. Its enclosed design provides protection against predators, heavy rain and harsh snow.
The front hole of this birdhouse measures 1.5 inches wide. Two different-sized predator-guards are included, which provide the birds with additional protection from predators such as squirrels and larger birds, as well as enable you to change the hole opening size of the bird house, which can vary depending on the type of bird you are trying to attract.

How to Mount or Hang:
Simply tie a rope or strong string through the metal hook at the top of the birdhouse to hang from a tree branch. This also makes a great decorative piece for indoors, such as on your fireplace or mantle.
How to clean your Wakefield Birdhouse:
Unscrew the two screws on the bottom of the birdhouse to remove the floor. Remove all nesting material and scrape off any remaining organic matter with an old toothbrush. We recommend cleaning the birdhouse after each season to promote good health for new birds moving in.
